I live in Altadena which I believe is zone 9. I have a large strip of land between the street and sidewalk. I can easily plant 3 trees there. I would like to know which fast growning evergreen trees are best to plant in my area. I love Magnolia's but they are very messy with leaves that drop. We would be parking under the trees, so I don't want a tree that drips sap. Mostly I want to have the three trees eventually grow tall and wide to give us a sense of privacy and park like feel. What trees do you suggest we consider? I love traditional leaves that grow on trees like variety of Maple trees, but I don't know if they are fast growing or evergreen.

Ornamental pear (Pyrus kawakami) is an evergreen tree that is well-behaved and doesn't drop messy flowers, fruit or seed pods. Cork Oak (Quercus suber) is evergreen, and tolerates wide range of growing conditions. Other suggestions include Holly Oak (Quercus ilex), Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergiana), and Torrey Pine (Pinus torreyana).

Best wishes with your parking strip landscape project!
