can I plant cone flower and columine seeds seeds in the fall |
Coneflower or Echinacea purpurea seeds could be planted outdoors now, some may germinate now and some may germinate in the spring after the winter stratification period. Aquilegia or columbine seeds typically require a cold chill in order to germinate. Depending on how many seeds you have, you could experiment wiht outside planting and also chill some (place in barely damp, clean, sterile, medium such as vermiculite placed in a small pot inside a plastic bag to conserve humidity) in your refrigerator prior to planting next spring. They can be started indoors under lights about two months prior to the last frost date or planted in the garden. Provide about a month of chill time. Good luck wiht your seeds! |
