My parents have a heavily wooded back yard. How can I get rid of all the grass in the back yard, cost effectively. Thanks

The most cost effective way to get rid of St. Austine grass is to mow it very close and then rototill it 1-2 inches deep a few times during the summer about 2 weeks apart. This will pretty much reduce it to just a few sprigs, especially if it doesn't rain. If the grass is bermuda, zoysia or a native grass you may need to spray with a herbicide product containing glyphosate. Read the label carefully and don't apply more that is needed or apply right before a rain. It works best when the grass is actively growing, not stressed. A repeat application a few weeks later may be needed.
