The beauty of red tip photinia is in the new growth. Pruning in the early spring, just as new growth begins will result in lots of healthy new foliage. You can safely prune or shear off one-third of the live material on your shrubs, but most gardeners simply cut off 3-6 inches each spring. Best wishes with your landscape!
