|HELLO. IF I GET A SMALL 8' BY 8' GREEN HOUSE, WHAT ELSE WILL I NEED WITH IT ? ALSO WILL MY PLANTS LIKE CANNAS, NEVER DIES,PETUNIAS, AND MUMS GROW ALL WINTER. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED|
|Building and operating a home greenhouse, even a small one, is fairly complex. You would want to look into the type of construction your greenhouse would use and what kind of heating system and also what type of ventilation system you would have, what type of tables or shelves to use, all in view of what kind of plants you want to keep in it.
Certainly an uninsulated glass walled structure will be very expensive to heat warmly enough to a temperature where cannas and petunias would stay actively growing. You might also have to add supplemental lighting to keep them blooming during our relatively dark, short days of winter. And even during winter, on sunny days you will need to have a way to vent the greenhouse to avoid overheating.
This type of Q&A format is too brief to give you the kind of information you really need to begin to investigate your options. I would suggest you start your research at the following overview of greenhouses and what is involved in operating them. It was written for West Virginia but it is definitely applicable to home gardeners in any area with a cold winter season. I think you'll find it really helpful.
I hope this helps!
