All hydrangeas would benefit from a layer of organic mulch placed over the root area in late fall, cover the root area in a flat layer but do not place it up against the stems of the plant. Hydrangeas are not pruned in the fall with the exception of removing dead blooms, some people remove them in the fall while some wait until spring. Assuming you have selected varieties that are hardy into zone 6 they should be fine.
