| I want to plant the DOUBLE SHOT JESSAMINE (Gelsemium sempervirens & G. rankinii) to climb my arbor on my deck that gets full sun to about 2pm most of the summer. I have 2 options - Put containers on the deck and plant the Jessamine in them to climb and spread on top of the arbor. I'd rather plant the Jessamine off the side of the deck (3 feet down) and let them climb from there... but that would mean the roots would be in the shade (shielded by the deck) but nearly all the foliage (anything higher than 4' would be in the sun/partial sun. (Both locations would have drip irrigation) Would that work? I'm sure they would grow there, but I also want them to flower. Thanks! |
| Either way would work for your plant; in containers, you'll have foliage from soil level to the tips of the plants; if planted in the ground, the stems and vines that do not receive adequate sunshine are likely to be bare, but the tops of the plants that receive sunlight will have lots of foliage and flowers. You could plant a companion plant near the base if you plant your jessamine in the ground. This plant could hide the bare stems. Just a thought - |
