My cockatoo has badly ringbarked my Cheal's weeping cherry but not all the way around, only up & down one side. Is there anything I should do to seal the wound ... or just pray?

Since the damage doesn't extend all the way around, there's hope for the tree. As long as there is a section of bark extending from root to top, the plant will be able to transport nutrients. I would trim the damaged bark--simply cut away the ragged edges so it's fairly smooth. Don't use any wound dressing--just let the tree heal naturally. (Wound dressings don't really help, and they can actually slow the healing process.) Now, what to do with that cockatoo?!?
