Albizia is also called mimosa. It has feathery foliage and pink puffy flowers in the spring. Your climate is perfect for Japanese maples so I wouldn't settle for a lookalike! To see which maples grow well in your area, visit the Japanese Garden in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. You'll be astounded at the variety!
