The answer to most of your questions really comes down to what your aesthetic preferences are. The size of shrub you prefer is also a factor.

Some to consider include boxwoods, various dwarf hollies, fringe flower and abelia.

When a list of options is returned via the search, you can click on a plant to learn more about it and in many cases to see a photo too.
