Escallonia is a fast growing evergreen shrub that's relatively insect and disease free. It grows in both sun and shade and produces flowers off and on from spring through summer. It adapts to most soil types and takes well to pruning so it can be shaped into a formal hedge or allowed to grow naturally. When you add all of its virtues together, you come up with a terrific shrub. Hope this answers all your questions about escallonia!
