|What do you find is the most effective way to keep the rabbits from eating spring tulips without harming the critters?|
|Those tulips look as good to bunnies as they do to you in the spring, but in their eyes, tulips are succulent salad greens. It'll take some doing to distract them. Rabbits can be repelled by a number of home remedies including cayenne pepper mixed with garlic and sprayed around the lawn or blood meal sprinkled on plants. You can try to scare rabbits from your garden by burying empty pop bottles with the tops poking up a few inches above the ground. The eerie whistle that results when the wind
blows can scare them away. Commercial products such as Hinder or Ropel, and even fox urine are available as rabbit repellent. Of course, a good dog or cat is the best defense, but sometimes just the presence of pet hair around the garden is enough. Using a combination of things and changing them often keeps the bunnies on their guard. The only real guarantee is a fence - use 1-inch chicken wire, 2 feet high and buried at least 6 inches deep.
