|Why has the red leaves of my wonderful Garnet Japanese Maple turned green? I followed the instruction on planting as per the plant tag and the plant seems healthy and well established in its location. I planted this spring and started noticing the change around mid June. Thank you for any information you can give.
|Acer palmatum Garnet usually holds its red summer color best in full sun, but in your area with your blazing hot summers, it needs to be in some shade for protection from the heat. The more shade, the less color in summer. Also, the drier the soil the more the color can fade. Some years the color may be better than others depending on the weather, too. As long as it seems healthy, I would wait and see how it does in the next couple of years as it settles in and becomes adapted to the location where it is planted. Keep in mind too that the fall coloring should be a terrific red so there is some seasonal change. Enjoy your tree!|
