| Five years ago, I purchased several ENGLISH LAURELS, which are planted along a South Facing fence where they get Full Sun. They are planted in well drained soil (behind a 3' high retaining wall back-filled with a pea gravel sump and 3' of good soil). No pruning has ever been done on them. The plants are now six feet tall, appaar healthy with beatiful lush folliage; however, each Spring, I look for the small white blossoms...but none ever appear...none that I can see anyway. Early on, I figured this was because the plants had not matured...but now...5 years later...and six feet tall, I am still not seeing any blossoms. Any ideas why not? Thank you. |
| I agree, 5 years is a long time to wait for flowers! English laurels bloom on new shoots and stems so in very early spring (about March) prune the stems back on your laurels. You only need to take a few inches off (try to prune back to a node or leaf scar). New growth will emerge (which will help keep your shrubs thick and dense) and flowers should develop on this new growth. Best wishes with your laurels! |
