|First off make sure the soil is kept evenly moist (damp like a wrung out sponge, not sopping wet and never dried out) throughout the fall until it freezes. This will help the hollies and boxwoods start the winter well hydrated. Apply a thick organic mulch over the root area (not against the stems) in a flat layer. If they are in a windy spot, erect a wind barrier such as burlap to shelter them from the harsh winter winds. Last but not least, hope for snow because it is a great insulator. Good luck!
