| A general rule of thumb for planting trees is to dig a hole slightly deeper and wider than the nursery pot and rough up the soil along the edges and bottom of the hole. Unpot the tree, spread the roots out in a natural fashion, then place it in the hole, making sure that the finished soil level will be the same as when the tree was growing in the pot (look for a soil line or water mark on the trunk). Backfill with native soil, gently tamping it down around the roots as you fill the hole. Then water well to help settle the soil. Keep your blue atlas well watered (once each week) during the fall months to help the roots become established. By next spring it should be established and ready to grow.
