Please give me information about pomegranates and how to obtain seed for starting them.

Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a showy shrub that produces orange-red flowers and has bright green leaves in the summer, which turn a brilliant yellow in the fall. They tolerate heat and will grow well in really alkaline soils. Most grow into 10' fountain shaped shrubs. Some cultivars bear fruit: 'Nana', Nochi Shibai', and 'Wonderful'. There are some dwarf varieties that do not bear fruit, but are extremely attractive plants, and grow to only about 3' high.

Pomegranate plants are usually grown from cuttings rather than seeds, so a local nursery would be a good source for a new pomegranate shurb.
