|Please give me information about pomegranates and how to obtain seed for starting them.|
|Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a showy shrub that produces orange-red flowers and has bright green leaves in the summer, which turn a brilliant yellow in the fall. They tolerate heat and will grow well in really alkaline soils. Most grow into 10' fountain shaped shrubs. Some cultivars bear fruit: 'Nana', Nochi Shibai', and 'Wonderful'. There are some dwarf varieties that do not bear fruit, but are extremely attractive plants, and grow to only about 3' high.|
Pomegranate plants are usually grown from cuttings rather than seeds, so a local nursery would be a good source for a new pomegranate shurb.
