Could you please tell me the most effective treatment of the sawfly-rose slug infestation on rose bushes. I have approximately 170 rose bushes that are affected which are located on traffic islands in our town. Avalon is a barrier island located between Cape May and Atlantic City.
I would appreciate your advice. Thank you. Joanne Collins, an active member of the Avalon Garden Club.

Insecticidal soap, horticultural oil, and neem applied to the foliage are all effective against the slug stage. Be sure to read and carfully follow all label instructions and contact both top and bottom sides of the foliage. Also, monitor closely so you can treat as soon as they appear and are still relatively small. I would strongly suggest, since you have so many plants in such a prominent location, that you consult with your local county extension to develop a treatment plan. Best of luck with your display!
