Shade loving vines - Knowledgebase Question

Houston, TX
Question by matthomas51

I built a trellis to block the view from a neighbors window and I am hoping to fill it with a vine to furhter block the view and improve the overall aesthetics.
It is in a full shade location. I currently have confederate jasmine growing on it but the leaves are few and far between. I assume this is because there is not enough sun.
I am in Houston, TX so frost is very rare and the summers can be intense.

-What shade loving vines can be used?
-Obviously flowering or brightly colored leaves would be nice?

Thanks
Matt

Matt,

Good cover in the shade is difficult. Confederate jasmine is a good choice and perhaps you can do some thing to brighten up the shade a bit such as doing some trimming of trees. English ivy would love the shade but is a bit invasive if not kept in bounds with periodic pruning.
