I have 3 mums that I put in containers to decorate the deck. I do not want them planted in the ground but would like to know how to care for them now that it is getting colder. At what temperature should I maybe put them in the garage? water or not and how much? cut back how much and when? cover with mulch or straw?

Your mums should be able to winter over outdoors in their containers without any special treatment from you. Wait until the tops die down then cut them off at soil level. Next spring new shoots will be produced and you can either leave the plants alone or you can unpot and divide them. Each division should have at least one new shoot and a clump of roots. Best wishes with your mums!
