Pruning Mexican Blue Sage - Knowledgebase Question

My Mexican Blue Sage is 3 years old and is blooming a bit. But the plant is getting leggy. How much should I prune it and when? This plant has fathered 4 other sages in my flower bed and I don't want to harm any of them. Just make them look a bit nicer. Thanks.

Michele,

I would wait until winter arrives and takes the plant back down. In spring prune it to about 6 inches and then as it grows you can shear it once or twice in spring and early summer to encourage bushiness. In time that sage like several others can get leggy if not sheared back a bit.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
