|I am doing a Science project on the effects of music on
plants. For the project I selected a Dianthus called Arctic
Fire. I am required to know all the information there is on
this plant and I was wondering if you could help me?
|I wouldn't want to do all your homework for you! Here are a few facts:
Dianthus is a genus of plants common to gardeners; it includes flowers such as carnations, sweet williams, and pinks. The name Dianthus is derived from the Greek "dios" which means "divine", and the word "anthos" which means flower--divine flower!
A few points on growing dianthuses: they need lots of light--full sun is best. They will not tolerate overwatering. Be sure the soil you use has excellent drainage properties.
In a quick survey of dianthus varieties, I could not find one called Arctic Fire, so I can't give you any specifics on that one.
Now I'll add my two cents' worth: Be sure to use lots of plants, not just one or two, for each treatment. If you are playing rock music and classical music as two treatments, for example, use as many plants as possible in your comparison--10 or 12 in each treatment would be good. Also, it's a good idea to have a controlgroup with no music.
