hi, I am looking to plant something that will grow 8 - 10 or 12 feet tall in the corner of my home which has a porch. I'd like some privacy from the neighbors and also to have some shade from the sun. about 2 to 3 feet from the flower bed corner, there are underground cables (gas, etc..). I have azealeas in the front and I just planted japanees yews on the side. Thank you very much. I love your website! Joanna

You might be able to use a narrow holly there, or possibly a smaller cultivar of Japanese maple. Your choice will depend on the growing conditions where it is planted, including the amount of sun it receives and whether that is morning or afternoon sun, and whether or not it is windy there, and what the soil conditions are. I would suggest you consult with your local professional nursery staff for help in making a selection. They will be able to give you detailed advice based on a more detailed understanding of the growing conditions where you want to plant as well as your design goals.
