These shrubs grow to about five feet wide and six to eight feet tall if left untrimmed; for a formal clipped hedge you could plant them about three feet apart, for an informal screen put them about four feet apart so they eventually overlap at the tips. For a formal clipped hedge make sure you trim them often the first two seasons so they branch frequently and grow dense at the base. Also trim it so the top is a bit narrower than the bottom, this allows light to reach the bottom of the hedge and helps it stay dense at the bottom. Keep in mind too that this plant does best in full sun to partial shade and needs good air circulation. It will also hold is winter color and condition better if protected from sweeping winter winds.
