|I want to have as many flowers, many varieties, colors, blooming next September for a special occasion. What should I be planting in my area--Southeastern Wisconsin?
|Annuals can't be beat for giving color throughout the growing season. Petunias, geraniums, zinnias, salvia, cosmos, marigolds, etc. will all be still blooming into September in your zone. Remember, however, that you must remove the spent flowers to encourage annuals to continue blooming. If you don't, they will set seed and stop producing flowers, but they do give a nice show!! Some others to look for are asters, goldenrod and mums. All can be planted next spring in anticipation of your special occasion.
