My client is looking for an ivy that will be good to scape over a box and down a wall. she would like it to be fragrant with a beautiful flower and ideally flower year round. She does not want it to loose its leaves in the winter. I originally thought of Lonicera Japnica Purpurea but am concerned that it will loose its leaf in the winter. The house is located in Los Angeles and the area is moderate sun. What would you suggest and could you send photos? |
There are a number of evergreen vines that you can plant in full sunshine. The problem you'll encounter is that vines want to grow up and out, not down. If you can plant at the base of the wall and allow it to climb up and along the top, the plant will be quite happy. There are a few plants that like to cascade down, but they do so because they get heavy with age. With that said, evergreen honeysuckle will work, as will Virginia creeper, Helix (ivy) and Star Jasmine. Best wishes with your new plants! |
