I have heard that that fresh horse manure can kill earthworms because of the medicine that is given horses to de-worm them. Is this true, if so, what should be done about it?

Intestinal worm treatments for livestock can kill earthworms but will neutralize in the manure after about one month. Your best approach is to allow the manure to age by spreading it out where sunlight, air, and rainfall can help leach everything out. Be sure any manure you use is at least one month old if you don't know it's origin.
