I have a ponytail palm with a trunk about five feet tall with another two to three feet of fronds in a very large cement pot on the patio -- too large to move (over 400 pounds) for storm protection. After Hurricane Wilma I found the entire new growth crown had been blown off. There are still a good number of green fronds, with the usual die-off of fronds around the bottom. Will the plant recover from this and how will it affect the new growth? Will it form a new crown or will the plant die? |
Kathy, It will probably recover if the terminal bud was not killed. I would give it some time to see whether or not it can produce new growth. This may take a couple of months. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
