Is there a good type of soil to plant a plant in?

Most garden plants do well in soil that is evenly moist yet well drained, it should also be organic and humusy. Most container plants do well in a good quality soilless mix specially formulated for container growing. Some plants do however have specific preferences such as for a lean fast draining soil or a particular range of pH, so it depends on what you are trying to grow. I hope this helps.
