|We have a Mimosa tree in our front yard. Some of the branches have broken due to a wind storm. They are brittle and we would like to cut some of them off. Is this a good time of year to do this? We love this tree even though it is very messy. It has grown so fast. When is a good time to prune it? Right now it looks lopsided because of the broken branches. Please give us some much needed advice!! Thank-you.|
|Wait a few weeks until winter sets in and you know your mimosa is dormant, then cleanly cut away the broken branches. If you prune before the tree goes dormant, it may grow and the new growth will be susceptible to winter cold damage. By waiting until it is dormant, you can clean the tree up without worrying about unseasonal new growth.
Best wishes with your landscape!
