I have one maple about 3 years old and it is dying from teh top. The leaves came out inthe spring and started to die as the summer went on. It has about 5 feet of dead in the top. It has a big split in the bark and looks as if it has bore worms. The area looks open and dry looking with the bark peeled back from thsi area. I have other maples in the yard and afraid it will cross to them as one of them has a split in the bark but not as severe as the first one.I used a pesticide that is to be mixed with water and pured to the ground around the trees.I used this in the summer. What can I do to stip this from spreading? Thank you.

Based on your description, unfortunately, I am not able to determine exactly what is happening to your tree. It might be a case of sunscald damage to the bark, or possibly a disease such as canker, or possibly a combination of factors including poor rooting. Whenever there is extensive bark damage, there is a chance the tree will die and these types of symptoms are very difficult to identify long distance. I would suggest you work with a professionally trained and certified arborist and/or your county extension to obtain a specific diagnosis of the problem, and then based on that, determine how to proceed. I'm sorry I can't be more specific for you.
