My Broccoli crop from last season was bitter. The yield was good, but the taste wasn't. What could have caused this problem?

Brocolli is a cool-season crop and tastes best when it can grow at a slow and steady pace. Sometimes the flavor of cole crops, like brocolli, is improved when the plants are subjected to a frost. I expect that your brocolli was either over-mature when you harvested, or it was grown during summer when the temperatures were too warm. Try to plant broccoli so it will mature before the summer heat, or plant it in summer so it will mature in the late fall months.
