Thuja occidentalis 'Holstrup' (Holstrup eastern arborvitae) is a very nice compact narrow pyramidal selection that slowly grows to a height of only 5 to 10'. Flat, bright green foliage is soft and occurs as tight vertical sprays at the ends of short, ascending branches. Retains green color in winter. Foliage smells faintly of a sweet tansy. Deer resistant, and hardy to USDA Zone 3.

It may be subject to spider mite infestations in dry areas, but is otherwise usually unaffected by problems. To overcome spider mites, simply spray the dust off the foliage in mid-summer.
