I work at farwest in boise idaho and am doing a landscape plan for my brother in Plano TX, however I am not familiar with the plants for the region and need some suggestions on some compact upright evergreens (ie little soldier juniper) for a sunny location and also some ideas for small shrubs or unusual perenials that do well in the area I need to have this done by the 22nd of Dec so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
Don, Some good evergreen "soldiers" include: IDYLLWILD JUNIPER Juniperus virginiana `Idyllwild` Moderate growth 15 feet tall, 5 to 7 feet wide. BLUE POINT JUNIPER Juniperus chinensis `Blue Point` Moderate-growing to 12 feet tall, 8 feet wide. SKYROCKET JUNIPER Juniperus virginiana 'Skyrocket' (J. scopulorum 'Skyrocket') Fast grower to 15 to 20 feet tall, 2 to 3 feet wide. WICHITA BLUE JUNIPER Juniperus scopulorum `Wichita Blue` Moderate grower to 10 to 15 feet tall, 4 to 6 feet wide. Larger with age. For small shrubs I'd suggest dwarf yaupon and Japanese barberry. There are lots of good perennials to choose from. The following web sites offer more suggestions: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu... http://tarrant.tamu.edu/garden... Thanks for the question.
