Cupressosyparis leylandii Emerald Isle - Knowledgebase Question

Arcadia, CA

I'm planning to plant several Emerald Isles in my new home located in La Habra Heights, CA. However someone suggests me to change for reasons that the above trees are not suitable for the environment of the city (meaning don't grow well) and tend to die in 10 years. Is that true ?

I have no data to support your concern that Leyland Cypress is short-lived in southern California. If the plants are well planted and well maintained, you should expect them to live for 25-30 years. Drought, disease, and insect infestations can shorten the life of plants; providing good draining soils, regular water, and scouting for insect and disease problems should ensure your Leyland Cypresses live long and healthy lives.
