|I planted an entirely new landscape Thanksgiving weekend. Since then, cold nights appeared and now my Rose Canyon abelias and azaleas are not doing well. The Abelias look very thin and weak, while the azaleas leaves are turning yellow. I did use a root stimulator 2 weeks after planting, as directed by Pike nurseries. What can I do to save my plants?|
Your plants may just be suffering from some transplant shock or perhaps soil conditions are too wet or too dry. Dig down a few inches around the plant to feel the soil and see how moist it is. Then water accordingly. In spring begin to fertilize lightly. About 2 tablespoons of turf fertilizer sprinkled around each shrub and watered in every 6 weeks through the spring and summer would be great.
