| This depends which kind of honeysuckle you are growing. If it is Hall's honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica -- grows well beyond 20 feet -- fragrant yellow/white blooms), you can cut it back as needed to control the size, including cutting it back very short in early spring. If it is one of the reddish flowered honeysuckles or a cultivar of one of these such as L. sempervirens or L. heckrotti (both to about 15 feet, higher if the support will allow it), trim it back as needed after it blooms. You can trim out dead or damaged stems at any time. You may also want to periodically remove some of the oldest stems to encourage vigorous new growth. Enjoy your honeysuckle vine! |
