|I live in palm springs ca and have bamboo (bambusa oldhamii). The leave are starting to turn yellow. They are geting water everyday for 10min on drip system and get pretty much full sun. Im not sure what to do. If they need fertilizer or more or less water. Can you give me some sugestions.
|Your bamboo may be just acting naturally, or it may be getting too much water. Ten mintues on a drip system seven days a week seems excessive to me. Try every 3 days instead. Bamboo is very much like a large grass; it can be fed a high nitrogen fertilizer to keep it green and it should be watered deeply once or twice a week (depending upon weather). It won't need as much water during the winter months as it will in the summer. Try watering only twice a week until the weather really warms up. When it gets hot, you can return to your regular watering schedule. Wait another month and then cut off the yellowing or dead foliage to encourage new culms. Best wishes with your bamboo!|
