Poinsettia's are too tender to grow outdoors in Michigan. Some gardeners successfully grow these plants indoors all year around. With special treatment, you can get them to color up for the holidays. If you decide to grow yours indoors all year, you can condition them to produce color by providing them with 16 hours of total darkness every day beginning in mid-September. I put mine in a closet after they've spent the day in a bright room. Best wishes with your poinsettia.
