Pruning time depends upon the type of tree. If it is a flowering tree, wait until the flowers are spent; if it is a non flowering tree, you can prune just as new growth begins. This can be February or March, depending upon your climate. Avoid pruning in the hottest months of summer when plants do not put on much growth. Best wishes with your garden!
