I want some flowering house plants that are hard to kill. Do you have any suggestions? |
I'm assuming you have trouble growing plants indoors. A big issue is the lack of humidity in our houses. Most houseplants are native to the tropics, get pushed to grow quickly in a greenhouse with optimal conditions and then are rudely transported to our dry, inhospitable homes. It's a shock to their systems! Try to keep the humidity around plants higher. Set the pot on a shallow tray of water on top of pebbles to keep the water from soaking into the pot. (So roots don't rot from constantly wet soil.) Group several plants together to increase humidity. As for choices, bulbs provide a blast of color, although it is brief. But they can be easy to grow. Amaryllis, squill, paperwhites. There are many choices. Spathiphyllum has glossy green leaves and leaf-shaped white flowers. You might also look for foliage plants with color or variegation in their leaves, such as caldium, coleus or four-colored wandering Jew. Good luck! |
