I am originally from the midwest and love Peonys. Is it possible to grow them here in zone 9, if so, what would the most important points be to planting and maintaining. Thanks for your help. |
Peonies are not always successful in warm winter climates. Most peonies require a prolonged winter chill in order to bloom well. However, there are a few that bloom reliably in zone 9. Among these are Coral Terrace, Zhao Pink, Necklace w/Precious Pearls, Number One Scholar's Red, Taoist Stove Filled with the Pills of Immortality, Rouge Red, Luoyang Red, Green Dragon Lying on a Chinese Ink Stone, Grand Duke Dressed in Blue and Purple, Phoenix White, and Twin Beauty. Aside from providing full sunshine and well draining soil, your peonies will need ample moisture during the growing season and regular feeding - the same care that they would require in your midwest garden. Try some of the above suggestions and you should be able to grow beautiful peonies. Enjoy! |
