|Will the shrub/small tree, Cotinus coggygria successfully grow here in Georgia? If yes, what are the planting conditions (soil additives etc)required? My yard is solid RED GEORGIA CLAY! All the garden centers I have contacted here do not stock the plant. They do not recommend it saying it needs special attention.|
Actually it should do fine in a clay soil. The plant doesn't require much water once established but does need good drainage as soggy conditions are detrimental to the roots. It does well in high pH, neutral pH and slightly acidic pH but may need some liming of the soil if you red clay is very acidic.
Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
