I would like to have beautiful tall hedges (like boxwood) to grow to 10 ft. or so. Is it possible in the Midwest? Do yew hedges grow in the midwest. |
Yews will grow in Chicago, especially when given some afternoon shade. If you have a completely sunny site, you might consider one of the following juniper suggestions: Juniperus chinensis ?Fairview? ? Bright green, narrow pyramidal growing to 15 feet; silver cones look like berries in fall. Good vigorous grower. J. chinensis ?Iowa? ? Blue-green, open pyramidal growing to 15 feet; spread to 8 feet. J. chinensis ?Mint Julep? ? Bright mint-green, compact 5 feet by 5 feet habit with arching branch tips. Hope one of these suggestions piques your interest! |
