Is it possible to directly sow monarda (beebalm) outside and have it grow, or does it need to be started inside. I dont mind if it doesn't bloom the first year. I live in zone 5 . |
You could start them outside in early spring or indoors as you prefer. Do not cover the seeds as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil damp. Keep in mind that this plant is usually propagated by division, in part because it spreads so quickly and usually needs to be controlled in the garden. Also, if you like the named cultivars, they will have to be propagated by division or rooted cutting as they do not come true from seed. |
