I have had no luck with diffenbachias. I have tried east windows, south windows, herbal teas, fluorescent lights. They just keep producing smaller and smaller leaves over about three years time. I have two that there are now just stems and dried leaves in a south window. However, at the local laundromat, they are all lush and large leaved. Any solutions? |
How frustrating for you! I wonder if you're killing your plants with kindness? A wide range of light conditions will be tolerated by your Diffenbachia, but it will thrive best in moderately bright light. Be sure to avoid direct heat of the sun. You can allow the soil to almost completely dry out before watering, but when you water, be sure to water thoroughly. Provide average household temperatures and if the air is very dry (due to winter heating), mist your plants every day with plain water. Diffenbachia is subject to root rot if the soil is kept too moist so avoid overwatering and do not allow the plant to sit in water. Be sure to drain excess water in the saucer at the base of the pot. Avoid excessively hot or cold areas. Fertilize periodically, following manufacturer's directions. KEY TIP FOR SUCCESS: Avoid overwatering and do not allow plant to sit in water.
