| Should sea oats be trimmed back every spring? We had landscaping completed last May with three sea oats planted in three beds. I don't know exactly how to care for them. They look like they need to be trimmed back for new growth to develop. Thank you for your assistance. |
| Chasmanthium latifolium (Northern Sea Oats) is an excellent grass for mass planting or it can be used as a specimen plant. This plant spreads by under-ground creeping rhizomes and can grow from 2 to 5 ft with rich, green color during spring and summer. It dries during the fall and dies to ground during winter. You can trim away the dead foliage in the early spring by cutting down to ground level. New sprouts will appear when the weather warms. Enjoy! |
