poppies and zebrinas(frenc hollyhocks) - Knowledgebase Question

I plant some oriental poppies(red ones)they are all well but the buds are out but all facing down,why?

Also I have some zebrinas,they are all growing well except that now yellow sports are all over most the leafs and under have litte clusters,what could be?I always find lady bugs around me zebrinas

It is natural for poppy buds to hook over and hang down. When they are about to open up they will raise the buds upward!

French Hollyhocks (Malva sylvestris Zebrina) are susceptible to rust which is a fungus disease. That said, I am surprised to hear you have so much rust on those plants because the French Hollyhocks seem to be much less susceptible to rust than their distant cousins, the standard types of hollyhocks (Alcea rosea). There are fungus sprays at your local garden center that can help control rust, but spraying is tedious and must be repeated several times starting before the disease appears. Therefore it is not practical to spray in most cases, and most gardeners don't. Try to avoid wetting the foliage when you water as this can help reduce the incidence of rust infection.
