| I recently bought some black Mimosa Seeds and I'm wondering what is the best way to get them to germinate? I read that you're suppose to soak the seeds overnight and then barely put then into the soil. I would like to verify this information and wondering what type of soil should be used. Lastly, can they be brought up successfully in a seed tray? Thanks!! |
| Phil, That type of seed is indeed best left on or near the surface. Some references recommend placing seeds in water heated almost to boiling and then removed from the stove. Let them soak in the water for 20 minutes before planting the seeds. Use a standard seed staring mix from a garden center. Keep it moist until seeds sprout which should be in about 2-4 weeks. Start the seeds in 4" pots and move them to gallon pots when they have 4 or 5 true leaves and roots are reaching to the outsides of the 4" pot's growing mix. Thanks for the question.
