To grow it in tree form, you would need to plant it out in the center of an open lawn area. You would train it on a very sturdy post. Eventually, with correct pruning and time, it will develop a tree-like effect with a center trunk and a canopy. The following web page has detailed information on how to achieve this, as well as how to plant and care for wisteria. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.
